Current City of Sierra Vista Airport Newsletter:

August 2010

To:       Airport Tenants and Users

From:  Doug Strohl, Airport Operations Supervisor, Sierra Vista Municipal Airport

Ref:     Airport Newsletter

Airport Commission:

There will be no Airport Commission meeting in August.  The next scheduled Airport Commission meeting will be on Wednesday, the 8th of September in the Airport Terminal Building beginning at 5:30 PM.  Please notify us in advance if you need any special arrangements.

Airfield Projects:

The Taxiway Juliet Realignment and Runway 12/30 Overlay projects will continue until the end of September 2010.  ALWAYS check NOTAM’s before taxiing around the airfield.

The Self Fuel Project was completed in June.  The project was on schedule and within budget.  There is a 5% discount for Self Serve Fuel.  If you should need any instruction using the Self Serve system, please contact any airport staff.  According to the AirNav website, at the time of this newsletter, our Self Serve fuel price of $4.28 / gallon is the lowest within 55 miles!  Please spread the word.

Airfield Closed Areas:

There seems to be some confusion about the closed areas around the airfield.  Here is a partial list of closed areas:

1.    East Juliet Taxiway is closed.

2.    The Large Aircraft Ramp west of the cargo access road is closed.

3.    Runway 12/30 is closed.

4.    Taxiway Golf is closed.

These areas are closed because of construction equipment and FOD on the taxiways and ramp area.  Please do not taxi around the construction barricades; you could cause damage to your aircraft or others.

There will be a displaced threshold on runway 26 during August.  Be sure to check NOTAM’s.

Parking At The Terminal:

With the Self Fuel Station in use and jet parking in the area, we are going to change the POV parking at the terminal.  At the end of the construction project we will no longer allow automotive parking in the area marked “Aircraft Parking Only”.  If you need momentary access to the facilities inside (bathrooms) please use the area inside the fence by the back doors, please remember this area is access for the Airport service trucks.  All other parking will need to be done in the front parking lot.  If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call or stop by.

E-Billing:

If you would be interested in receiving your monthly hangar or tie-down billing via email, please send your email address and a brief message to:  Angela.Loucks@sierravistaaz.gov.  Also, if you’re one of the persons who pay for the entire years hangar lease in January to receive one month’s lease free, you can sign up for email billing for that service too.

Airport Fuelers:

Eldon Cook:  with the end of Fire Season, Eldon will be leaving us.  Thanks for all your help this year!

Iggy Soriano:  Iggy was selected for Public Works Employee of the Month for July because of his assistance during the 4th of July weekend when Governor Brewer was visiting Sierra Vista.  Congratulations!

Mike Geesling:  Mike is the newest member of the team.  Mike was raised in the White Mountains in northern Arizona and is a graduate of Northern Arizona University.  Mike is currently attending Cochise Collage to obtain his Pilot’s License. Good luck Mike!

As always, if there are any questions or something you’d like to see in the newsletter, please contact either Steve Tyminski or myself at 520-458-5775.
